We often conduct market research, in addition to the items listed below, to identify new vendors in a technical space, review analyst reports and user reviews, and create a list of software options

• Develop use cases and key functional requirements
• Prioritize features based on criticality (must have vs. nice to have)
• Score each requirement using a weighted average
• Functional fit (will software meet the requirements?)
• Technical compatibility (integration, architecture, security)
• Usability (user experience, learning curve)
• Vendor reputation and support
• Total cost of ownership (license, maintenance, implementation)
• Scalability and future-proofing
• Compliance and risk management
• Score each feature/option against the selection criteria
• Narrow down to a shortlist (typically 3–5 vendors)
• Request product demos or preliminary vendor briefings
